Natural Methods to Help Slow the Aging (hydro electric power) Process
No commentsBy Dee Braun
The world we live in is a world of toxins. These environmental toxins are everywhere, in the air, food, and water. Even if you are aware and careful, it is practically almost impossible to avoid them. The choice left for us is to do something about the toxins we encounter in our daily lives.
We know that our environment is toxic. Aside from these toxins, free radicals, which we produce with our energy exposed to these toxins, are also everywhere. In fact, these free radicals are the causes of certain diseases such as cancer.
These also cause fast aging among people. While free radicals inside our bodies help us generate energy, and they assist our body in fighting infections, there are too many of them that attack our healthy cells, thus causing us to ‘prematurely age’.
Since toxins in our environment are increasing, free radicals are increasing, too. This is the main reason why our bodies weaken easily, including our cells. There are some supplements that can help us in countering the effects of free radicals and toxins.
* Antioxidants are found in a lot of food, too. Antioxidants help our bodies in flushing away toxins developed inside. When toxins are reduced inside our bodies, we help our cells keep healthy.
* Vitamin C is very important for collagen production and repair. It also acts as an antioxidant and boosts our immune system.
* Chrondroitin Sulfate supplements are help for our cartilages.
* Glucosamine Sulfate supplements help repair, and rebuild damaged cartilages. These also protect healthy cartilages. As one ages, his or her cartilages become weak. And for some other reason, such as injury, health problems, or something hereditary, our cartilages weaken prematurely.
* Dehydroepiandrosterone is naturally produced inside our body. It helps in the production of testosterone, estrogen, corticosterone, and progesterone. DHEA supplement aids a person whose DHEA production has decreased because of age.
* Glutamine supplements helps in increasing the growth hormone levels. Growth hormone is the strongest anti-aging substance studied as of today.
There are some natural ways of slowing down our bodies’ aging process.
* Ensure that you have abundant intake of antioxidants. Since antioxidants are found in many foods, just a healthy diet will assure that you get what you need. Supplements are also great since they allow us to have antioxidants within reach, anytime.
* Watch your sugar intake, it should be minimized.
* Drink lots of water. Lessen your intake of sodas, and alcohol.
* Stop smoking. You are simply killing yourself slowly with it.
* Exercises do not simply make our bodies stronger; they help in keeping our cells healthy. Through perspiration, we are able to naturally flush some toxins away.
* Get enough rest. As you overwork yourself, you are not only more prone to injuries, you are also overexerting yourself. Your cells, muscles, and bones have limit to the kind of pressure and stress they can handle.
The above mentioned ways in slowing aging will also help a person reduce the risk of him or her getting many common ailments..

Factors To Consider When Undertaking New Mining Projects
By Dominic Donaldson
Mining projects, by their very nature, are huge endeavors. The factors that have to be taken into consideration are both complex and far-reaching and are becoming more and more important.
As well as clearing large areas of land to make mining projects possible, there are often logistical factors and infrastructure issues involved; roads and houses may need to be built, and in some cases entire communities spring up as part of a large project.
Some of the major factors to be considered, and also the ones with increasing importance, are the environmental consequences of a mining project. In light of recent studies on pollution, ozone and global warming, it is clear that certain behaviour is no longer acceptable in the 21st century.
As scientists study new data about the environment and our planet, it is becoming clear that everyone has to respect the world we live in and adapt accordingly. This includes mining companies.
As well as important minerals and resources, mining areas can contain potentially hazardous material that needs to be dealt with appropriately and in a manner in accordance with environmental laws. Environmental laws are now established as an important way of minimising the impact of human activity on the environment and on humanity itself.
To obtain important metals such as iron, silver and copper, extracting sulphide ores from the ground is a necessary evil. In environmental terms one of the unwelcome by-products of this is the production of sulphuric acids and metal ions.
These do not occur when the mineral is underground, only when it is exposed to oxygen or water. Factors such as this need to be taken into account from the initial stages of planning right through to the execution of any new mining venture.
Mining also involves the use or destruction of many resources which are important to people but geographically located near mining projects. As well as mining being responsible for about 10 per cent of the world’s energy consumption, it can also require agricultural land to be destroyed or flooded.
This can affect lakes and rivers that are used for drinking water or fishing, and crops local people rely on for food being taken away.
As well as all the issues involving the extraction or destruction of resources, there is also the human factor to consider. People have land taken away by large scale mining projects, land that is not only physically important but is often historically or spiritually important.
The people effected by these projects must be involved in the decision making process at every stage and on every level. If this is not dealt with properly then problems will arise that can seriously effect a project financially and even lead to a project being delayed or not going ahead at all.
To overcome all these issues, and overcome them effectively and with minimal disruption, it is necessary to undergo a thorough consultation process, taking into account financial, environmental and social considerations.
In an increasingly environmentally friendly world the mining industry are facing a new list of challenges and responsibilities. Things that it hasn’t had to consider in the past are now of paramount importance.
Mining companies need to create or assess their policies on managing the environment, waste, water and other resources as well as having a clear and sustainable strategic plan. Without these things in place any company undertaking a mining project is neglecting its responsibilities and not fulfilling its potential.

(Energy conservation) Environmental and Waste Audits Are a Good Start to CSR
No commentsBy john mce
Corporate social responsibility is an important issue in these times of fear and hysteria surrounding global warming. In the past and still presently, multinationals are particularly to blame for careless acts of waste often on a global scale. It can appear petty to complain about the waste of paper, or leaving lights on, but it is these little aspects that can make a big difference. Employees and employers alike have to rid themselves of lazy bad habits and turn the lights off when leaving the building. Starbucks was recently exposed by an investigation spearheaded by the Sun newspaper for wasting 23.4 million litres of water everyday because the company has a ridiculous policy of always leaving the taps running.
It is reasons such as this that environmental audits are so important for big business. They aid managers in identifying the areas of dissipation that are most damaging their CSR (corporate social responsibility) whether it be e-waste, air and water emissions or their lighting and heating situation. External environmental audits are typically less compromising and so more effective because the survey is conducted by an independent advisor who will have no qualms with informing the organisation on their many downfalls.
But on a day-to-day basis it is often a positive idea to appoint an internal auditor who can report to managers within the company as well as external agencies to ensure a lack of insider bias. Eventually a full environmental managing system should be initiated into the company’s proceedings, but this must be executed after environmental reviews have successfully taken place over an extended period of time.
For ease and efficiency it is best to break the workplace down into sections, such as office space, canteen, process areas etc. Then within each of those particular areas organise them into environmental subdivisions, for example; heating, lighting, water, air and other aspects prone to emissions. In this way it is a lot simpler for the appointed environmental auditor to keep track of the emissions in each area and take the appropriate action.
There are specific protocols for waste auditing which is of course directly linked to the environmental review. Audit managers must analyse the production and handling of all waste. The origin of the waste must be assessed, whether it is necessary or if it is possible to avoid. If it is unavoidable then the storage and disposal of such waste must be reviewed and improved.
Companies taking steps such as these can make a big difference in the wider picture of global warming and should encourage other organisations to do the same.

Why Not Try to Eat Less Meat?
By Stephanie Foster
Cutting back meat consumption can be a difficult thing to do, at least in the United States. Eating meat is so much a part of how I was raised that it’s really hard to break the habit or slow it down. But there are a lot of good reasons to do so.
1. Better for your grocery bill.
This is a reason that many of us can get on board with these days. Beans, lentils, brown rice, barley and so forth cost much less than meat and are great sources of protein. They’re also nicely filling. All you have to do is learn to cook them in ways you enjoy.
2. Better for the environment.
Another great reason, even if it’s less of a motivator for many people who are far more concerned with their budget. Grains have a much lower environmental impact than meat. Animals eat a lot of grain, but the amount of meat you get from them is much less.
You will also significantly cut your carbon footprint. Meat production overall is very hard on the environment.
3. Less handling of raw meat.
While the big salmonella stories recently have related to foods such as spinach, the mishandling of raw meat is a very common source of food poisoning. Just think of how quickly you reach the ‘use by’ date of any meats you buy, versus how long grains last. A part of the food poisoning risk with meat is how fast germs can grow in it.
4. How many farm animals are treated.
If the ethics worry you, then the treatment of farm animals is a big deal. There are farms that treat their animals far better than the factory farms that produce the more affordable meats. And of course there are all the hormones and antibiotics used on factory farm animals.
5. It can be healthier.
This one really depends on you. It’s possible to eat unhealthy without meat, but if you’re trying to eat well and eat less meat, it’s pretty healthy. You’ll probably have less fat in your diet, for one thing. You can cut the odds of getting many health problems simply by eating less meat. It’s not a guarantee, just lower odds.
If you want to cut back on meat but still like to have it every day, just work on how you serve it. Go heavy on the vegetables when you stir fry, for example. I’ve found chopping the meat into pieces can make it look as though there’s more on my plate as well, so I eat less of it.

(Water conservation) Renewable Energy for Everyone
No commentsBy Cedric DSilva
Affordable Renewable Energy for Everyone
Have you ever wanted to power your home or office with renewable energy, but thought it was too expensive? Or you didn’t want to deal with installing and maintaining equipment?
Now there is a way that everyone can use solar, wind, and other renewable energies, at a fraction of the cost. Even renters can power their homes with renewable energy.
Renewable energy certificates (aka green tags, green energy certificates, or tradable renewable certificates) make it easy and inexpensive for anyone to reduce or eliminate the environmental impact of their electricity use.
Each certificate represents the delivery of a specific amount of renewable power (usually one megawatt-hour) into a regional or national energy “grid.” This replaces the non-renewable fossil fuels that would have otherwise been used with non-polluting energy from solar, wind, biomass, and other renewable sources.
While the renewable energy you pay for may not flow through the wires in your own home, the resulting overall benefit to the environment is the same as it would be if you installed solar panels or wind turbines directly on your own property.
The certificates are purchased in addition to paying your regular energy bill. So it doesn’t cost less than standard electricity, but its a small premium to pay to keep toxic pollutants produced by the burning of fossil fuels out of the environment. And it supports the market for renewable energy as a whole, which ultimately will bring the price down for renewable energy and make it more generally available.
These certificates are available on the internet, but not widely known. Green energy certificates are currently being marketed to big businesses that use a lot of energy and can make a big impact with their purchase, but anyone can buy them.
I recently purchased renewable energy certificates to offset the electricty I use in my own home and home office. Though my purchase is only 15 MWh per year for my 1500 square foot house, every little bit helps establish the market for renewable energy. It prevents the emissions of 20,700 pounds of carbon dioxide annually, equivalent to planting 1,500 trees or removing 2 cars from the road for one year. I pay only $40 a month (in addition to my regular energy bill) for solar, and other renewables cost even less.

Live Greener, Live Longer
By SimonSkinner
One of the benefits of living green is it can extend your lifespan. This may be surprising, but it is very true. There are many things that not only help the earth, but they help you, too! Eating fresh organic foods, cutting down on driving, and many other things will help you live greener, longer!
By eating healthy, organic foods you are not only helping your body by giving it fresh food, you are saving the earth from being contaminated by pesticides. Organic meats help by keeping the environment free of antibiotics and growth hormones. Plus you’re avoiding all those nasty things from going inside of you! By eating fresh, organic foods, you are avoiding all the processed foods that do a better job of clogging your arteries than they do of providing nutrition.
Try to drive less. By combining your errands, you not only save fuel and reduce the traffic on the roads; you are giving yourself less stress from dealing with traffic jams and other drivers. Carpool or use public transit when you can. If you choose to ride a bike or walk for some of your errands, you also get needed exercise. This will help keep your heart healthy and keep you limber and toned.
Composting your food scraps can save you money in garbage waste and provide you with great soil next season for your own garden. It also keeps a lot of good stuff out of the landfills. Just keep adding your fruit and vegetable wastes, egg shells, coffee grounds, and grains to the compost pile. You can add your raked leaves and lawn clippings as well. Don’t add meat or bones they will attract insects like flies and will take longer to compost. Water the compost down once in awhile to get the enzymes activated. Come spring, you’ll have some nice compost soil to add to your own vegetable garden for more healthy eating.
Other things you can do will just make your home more comfortable. Larger windows can help let in more natural light so you don’t need to turn your lights on early. Using compact fluorescent bulbs can save you money and will save energy. Use energy-efficient appliances and don’t leave your air conditioner on when you’re not at home. You’ll be amazed at how much this impacts your energy usage.
Small things like recycling cans, bottles and plastic packaging helps lower your garbage bills and helps reduce your carbon footprint. Use cloth bags when you shop instead of taking their paper or plastic bags. Some stores even knock off a few cents when you use your own bags. All of this will help reduce pollution, which is healthier for you because you’ll be breathing cleaner air.
Once you get started, you’ll be amazed at how easy it is to live greener. You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel both physically and mentally. Plus, you’ll feel better knowing you’re doing your part to have a healthier planet to live on. So go ahead live greener and live longer. You’ll be happy you gave it a try.

The Future Of Airport Design Goes Green
By Dominic Donaldson
An international airport is a hub of activity; with holidaymakers, business people and others travelling en mass, it is essential to create a calm and tranquil atmosphere. It is also important to plan and design the airport so that a large number of people can pass through with minimum disturbance to each other and to the operations within the terminal itself.
There are, however, smaller general terminals and military bases that form a large part of the aviation industry and the design and development of each of these has different priorities.
The smooth running of these large projects takes a level of organisation and planning that requires the amalgamation of many skills in the engineering industry. In recent years the building of any industrial development has had to conform to new environmental impact legislations.
To guarantee that the development meets these regulatory standards it is essential to implement an Environmental Management System. This will ensure that every step of the airport design has been considered in accordance with any future environmental impacts it might have.
Environmental engineering takes many environmental factors into consideration and meets the ‘green’ standards expected by a concerned public and demanded by government regulations. Using resources wisely and setting high standards that will meet tomorrow’s sustainability requirements are a priority.
It is now widely understood in business that an increase in environmental performance translates as a rise in general performance and profits; it is this kind of understanding that is allowing the boundaries of design to be pushed and for developments in airport design to embrace the future of technology.
The aesthetics of an airport differ depending on whether it functions as a consumer-facing international air terminal, a military base or a general aviation airport, due to significantly different end user requirements. In a commercial airport, the design is tailored toward creating a calm, open atmosphere.
The users of this type of airport are generally waiting for long amounts of time to board a flight and will spend this interval shopping in the many tax free boutiques and eating and drinking in the terminals bars and restaurants. The way these airports function has to facilitate a large number of people queuing and moving between areas. This requires wide, open walkways and an environmental control system that ensures passengers are comfortable while they wait to board.
If you compare this with the functioning of a military air base, the differences in design priorities are startling. At military air bases, comfort and aesthetics take a lower priority than functionality because a military establishment is primarily a place of work. There is no need to create a consumer-friendly atmosphere culture and the volume of personnel that military airports have to process is dramatically reduced.
A small local airport often has to accommodate a unique demographic that needs more functionality than an international terminal because some of the clientele are pilots and others are passengers, so a certain level of consumer-friendly aesthetics are built in and the facilities on offer mirror those that would be expected at a major airport, such as restaurants and shops.
Understanding and unifying aesthetics and functionality in accordance with a sustainable way of development is the major challenge facing airport designers today. When you have passengers who seek five star service and airport operators that aim to meet a target of zero carbon emissions, formulating a green project that gets the green light can seem like pie in the sky.
